This thread isnt really a thread at all; although you are welcome to suggest additional rules of engagement. Its aim is to outline what is generally expected of everyone who follows/participates in the main Bio threads, and to inform you where other related specialist threads are lurking. The aim is to avoid the chaos of Twitter; stay on topic and not waste peoples time with irrelevant trivia…..trust me, you won’t be thanked. Try to remember, the main bio threads are primarily about investing REAL money. There are other threads where you are welcome to blather with your pals till the cows come home. I hope you will respect that these threads are not just for your benefit…..its for the many 100’s who read KSS’s genius along with the excellent, selfless research done by many avid contributors.
An Important Message From Your Bio Threads CEO
Hi All. Im sure you will all agree that these threads are a blessing and that we have learned (are still learning) a huge amount from the many contributors to these KSS led threads. We have formed into a fab club of adult āfriends with benefitsā, with hardly a dissenting four letter word to savor. We are growing like topsy and have new members joining every day, which is great. (here come the butsā¦.)
But there are sooo many trivial and off topic posts, itās becoming increasingly hard to keep focus. I suspect many members are being forced to unsubscribe from threads to avoid the tsunami of notifications in their morning mail. This happened before and many purist Bio investors got pretty miffed. Iām sure the sheer quantity of notifications you each get every day is more an exhausting distraction than an aid at times.
Often KSS is being asked the same questions he answered just last week (in his usual technicolor). If we keep doing this, there is a very real danger that we will exhaust him too and heāll be forced by his other life pressures, to wave a fond farewell. So please, let’s stop using him as a free alternative to doing our own DD (many are excluded from this rebuke).
So, at the request of āsignificant othersā I propose the following:
Thread Rules and Etiquette
I wont claim that everyone will keep to these rules, but the more that do, the easier it will be for all to gain from these threads especially via the comment search.
1/ Please try to remember, the main Bio threads are fundamentally about investing, NOT as a replacement for Twitter. Better to say nothing than say nothing of general relevance to the thread title. There will be a āClub Houseā thread where you can banter all dayā¦..disinterested others can avoid subscribing to it.
2/ Before you ask a question, ALWAYS do a comment search (top of each discussion thread page), to see if its already been asked/answered here or elsewhere. That search will check the current thread only, you can also search past threads by going to their pages.
Heart felt āThank Youā posts for special favours (thats how we spell favors in UK) are welcomedā¦ā¦indeed essential. But try to avoid posting non essential, polite responses. Remember your posts to Fred for wishing you Happy Birthday appears in the inbox of 100+ people who dont need to know. Use the Thumb tick insteadā¦ā¦it says all that needs to be said, and accumulates against the friends name forever. Give the gift that lastsā¦..a thumb! Better to say nothing than say nothing of general interest or relevance to the thread title.
4/ Insofar as possible, stay on topic, or at least relevant to the core bio tickers. I have set up a new thread for questions/answers/info about other stocks of interest (which KSS/Travis and doubtless others can mull) here http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2014/11/microblog-kss-club-house-other-interesting-tickers/ Please subscribe/bookmark it and use it.
5/ There is already a Politics, Religion and other Unmentionables thread. In essence this is āThe Club Houseā where anything goes. Use it to natter with your pals till your tongue gets cramp (if you type with your tongue that is). Itās got rather full of late, so I am starting a Volume 5, here http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2016/03/microblog-club-house-for-the-discussion-of-religion-politics-and-other-unmentionables-volume-5/ so I will draw a line under previous volumesā¦..don’t worry, they’ll still be there to refer back to, but please dont post to them anymore. If he will accept, I would like to nominate ARCH1 as future Thread leader and Referee. Please subscribe/bookmark it and use it.
6/ Thereās already a āTrading Options etc strategiesā thread here http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2014/04/microblog-options-understandings-and-tactics/ . Since the loss (?) of Margaret, it needs a thread leader and Refereeā¦.anyone can volunteer ??
7/ Thereās already a Technicalās thread here: http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2014/05/microblog-technical-analysis-classroom/ Please subscribe/bookmark it. Hi Pockets presently seems keen on this angle, so, if he will accept, I would like to nominate him to be Thread Leader and Referee with the aid of Jean-Pierre Ruiz. Please subscribe/bookmark it and use it.
8/ I have set up a new thread for KSS Bio stock rating/grading. Lawrence Mckenna has volunteered to maintain a weekly chart, so I nominate him as Thread Leader and Referee. http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2014/11/microblog-bio-stock-ratinggrading-volume-1/ If you dont think this rating is useful, dont bother to subscribe so that you can ignore it.
9/ If youve had a nasty trading experience (lost money) and want to avoid doing it again, take a look here http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2014/08/microblog-lessons-taken-away-from-the-rgdo-crash/ where member discuss this type of problem from personal experience and offer strategies to avoid it next time (ha ha!). Please subscribe/bookmark it and use it.
10/ Its easy to set up new threads if thereās any other topic you feel needs its own homeā¦..so any suggestions welcomedā¦ā¦ that is IF youāre prepared to be Thread Leader and Referee. No passengers on this site!!
Now some v important extras:
11/ So that people can more easily track past information using comment search; please start ALL main Bio thread posts (at least) with the relevant $xyz ticker (s). No ticker? Then the comment is obviously not about investing, so you have probably posted on the wrong threadā¦..or a thumb would have done just as well. Better to say nothing than say nothing of general interest and relevance to the thread title.
12/ It would also be v good to know whether you own shares in the aforementioned ticker (I dont really think we need to know how many, at what price or about your whole portfolio; but knowing you own $XYZ may help others to know which side you hang.
13/ Please be prepared to back up your comments with specific DD. Simply saying
āI dont like this company/bloke/share etc ā¦.Derhh?ā educates no oneā¦ā¦..your uninformed gut feeling is best kept to yourself until you have hard facts/learned rumourā¦..Without DD backup, any such posts should be considered as just pumping, over exuberance in an attempt to get others to join you in buying that dog, hot air, bad breath and fog. Better to say nothing than say nothing that adds intelligence.
14/ When posting a link, please give your short summary take so that others can judge whether its worth spending time to read ( and for heavens sake, not a cut and paste of the whole blinking text, please!)ā¦ā¦ā¦..Though they are mostly very interesting and educational, reading ALL the links could easily become a full time job ! Give us a summary so we can be selective.
15/ ā¦ā¦.And finally (for now) , AND PROBABLY MOST IMPORTANTā¦.Dont abuse KSSās or any diligent members time/energies asking for info/analysis on random tickers that you happened to stumble on, without, at least, stating why you think its interesting and what YOU have found out for yourself thus far (and, to begin with, make it concise please !). KSS is a tad busy merely saving lives between posting here, to do an hours free DD for you, lazy bones.
For the benefit of all, I hope the above will bring a measure of structure and discipline to these threads. I wont claim that everyone will keep to these rules, but the more that do, the easier it will be for all to gain from these threads. While I have no authority, other than as the CEO, where greatness was unexpectedly thrust upon me by KSS, I will continue to play the role of general shepherd, even though its more like herding cats at times ! (I know zippo about Bio investing, so playing this role is all the value I can return for my education here). So if you stray from the above rules, please expect to hear barking. Iād very much like it if others would join me in this barking so that offenders/newbies will get the idea and learn to post pertinent stuff on the correct threads and observe the etiquette, (and not make it seem like Im the only pain in the ass junk yard dog !)
Regards to all
AlanH
PS If you think Im going too far, well at least its well intentioned and you’re welcome to tell me to FOā¦..Im not on a salary, there is no board of directors, so I cant be sacked….Im English not French (thats an ‘in’ joke you’ll come to understand). I pay the same $49 as you and I know where the delete button is. But I assure you, people WILL drift away from these threads and they WILL collapse under their own weight if we allow them to become just another Twitter feed. Try to remember this is a club for the benefit of many, not just youā¦..No one has enough spare time to spend it reading 50 ālightweightā posts every morningā¦..most especially our esteemed leaders KSS and Travis. Better to say nothing than fill 100+ peoples inboxās with nothing of relevance to the thread title/topic.
Enjoy!!All the threads are for adults……bad behavior, bad language (within limits) overt personal attacks and the like will NOT be taken kindly by the gang ie you will get multi trashed. If you wanna flame someone, be clever and choose your words subtly. Telling someone that they may be constipated is far better than outright saying they are full of sh1t.
Enjoy and behave.

Why don’t you start a Facebook page for you intelligent people whom seem to just talk about your Bio IPO’s. And regular investors can have a diverse chat about all markets. Bio is probably the hardest field to make money in when investing. And you all have such large brains and etiquette values. Just saying.
I just wanted to add the old formula for report writing, which you’d do well to follow:
Tell ’em what your report is about : ie Subject: $XYZ: Motley reckon it will be a screamer.
Tell ’em your summary ie I think its makes sense/is rubbish coz……..
Tell ’em where to get the detail ie Here’s a link to that report on http://www.blah blah blah.
Please DONT cut and paste the whole text…..no one will read it unless they have skin in the game. If they have, the link will obviate the need for you to C&P the whole article.
Thanks.
Guys: Theres a spread sheet created by HiPockets (all hail) that gives details of KSS comment. Its partially mis-named The Dungeon and one third is about terrible stox that you should avoid at all costs…..but the other two + pages talk about those in remission. Red, Yellow and Green. Its a vital reference work. Dont miss it. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tyFFLmr6QymjbC5JS95V4wqdQl-Sw11nIGEuf0u_sjs/edit#gid=1118321821
Guys: Theres another spreadsheet from a different angle giving details/links to ALL stocks mentioned on these threads That is also essential reading https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NlmYXe4nn2BNlRQ8cxhqomq4lOj04Jh1VP3Z_C7-cjY/edit#gid=179896108
The thread leader and referee is Opposable Thumb….kudos Op.
PS If ANYONE doesnt think that just one of these spreadsheet…let alone KSS’s threads and GS in general, is worth $49pa….Please consult Dr Peter Tilton for Psychiatric advice.
Pls remember that you can search any thread by using the comment search box at the top of every thread.
You can find a link to all the KSS threads/columns here in chronological order:
http://www.stockgumshoe.com/author/dr-kss-md-phd/
At Frenchies inspiration, I have set up a new discussion/info thread on the topic:
āHow to āvalueā Biotec stocks http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2015/02/microblog-how-to-value-biotec-stocks-volume-1/
Again, this is essential reading for both newbies and experienced investors.
Thanks very much for the info Alan. Makes it so much easier to find what I’m looking for.
All: I posted this today on the current main Bio thread. But its equally relevant for all occassions. Please take it to heart.
All: We REALLY mustnāt keep hitting on KSS for old info (trust me, I happen to know it REALLY hisses him off)ā¦ā¦.he only has so many hours a day to be a Doc, research new threads for us, update us with new info, have a social life, eat and breathe. Rae: I suspect what youre really asking for is an update. Trust me, KSS WILL update us as and when theres new info ā¦. he watches the market like Sauron. If however, you really cant find already published info, follow these simple methods. Go to Google search at top of this page and enter the ticker (usually prefaced with a $ sign), and/or the company name. This will throw up every thread where its contained. Enter that thread. Once there, do CtrlF and re-enter the ticker or the company name again. This will throw up every reference within that thread. You can (should) also look at the spreadsheets.
IF, and only IF that all fails, should you ask KSS. But even then, you MUST show him the courtesy of presenting your own DD thus far. Assemble your links, cut and paste consise, relevant info, focus your question. No one can analyse data better than KSS, but YOU need to present the data YOU want analysed, not expect him to trawl the net for you, lazy bones.
Heās Da Manā¦.NOT Da Nanny !
Please guys, lets take some heat off Da Man or we may lose him.
Thanx
You can find a list of ALL the KSS articles here under the light blue tab https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tyFFLmr6QymjbC5JS95V4wqdQl-Sw11nIGEuf0u_sjs/edit#gid=1920166586

Many of the comments on the main bio threads are about day to day trading activity. This thread has been created so as to cut down the quantity of posts on the main bio threads, plus give traders their own space to bat stuff around. There is no thread leader as the thoughts are momentary. So it works like a ticker tape as do the SPās. http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2015/04/microblog-biotech-traders-thread/

One thing I think is important to keep in mind with what we do here is that my own thrust, what I write about, what I cover, has morphed quite a bit as the group has grown, become more cohesive and become a highly interactive forum with so many people contributing to it. In 2014, I often covered stocks because I felt they merited discussion, not because I necessarily thought they were good investments. My first three columns last year were of this typeā¦.nifty science, stuff I felt people wanted to understand because the companies in question were getting lots of airtime.
Then, I tended to assume that people were doing fine with their own conservative lowish risk biotech picks, and decided I would present some admittedly high risk, binary, interesting situations, situations where I felt that win or lose there would be much āaction.ā I tried to convey throughout that these were highly risky, highly speculativeāāand that while most biotech situations are frankly pretty laughable, these did have science storylines that were compelling and that they might be worth a bit of mad money. What is a lot of money to one is not a lot to another. For those kinds of picks, I really never had anything but what I would call a starter position, money Iād not miss if it vaporized. Also, Alan and I both suggested in the threads that given the nature of the beasts we were discussing, that no one ever put more than $5000 into any one situation, advice I still consider excellent. But I worry that some interpreted scientific zeal I had for what the company was doing as a ringing endorsement that it would really pan out for them, and may have gotten burnedā¦even though we said: (1) this is risky, (2) we are not a tip sheet or a trading advisory, (3) use only play money for these.
In the interim, we have accrued some serious contenders here as participantsāIāll not name all of them. I had no idea people would be following as intently as they are, and ponying up as they are. I am thrilled people are participatingā¦.but it took me some months to get a real feel for where readers were.
From about December 2014 onward, I am writing on only one thing: very serious plays where I feel money is there to be made for patient speculators. By and large we are not covering binary plays like Sophiris, Regado, QRXPY, Celladon anymore. We are trying to cover better safer bets because I want all readers to be serious contenders and because I want readers to be able to make money from our enterprise here. I think it has been since my shift in editorial attitude that some of our true gems like Receptos, Aurinia, Trillium, GenFit have been dug up. I donāt want to give things away, but there are just countless situations I am following for people here, ones that I will reveal finally when I think things have ripened. I am no longer writing on it a company when I first learn of it, but rather tracking it, waiting for the stars to line up, and then telling you about it when I think itās time for you to enter or contemplate. I wasnāt doing anything remotely like this last year for readers.
Regardless of how hard I try, and regardless of how vigorously I sometimes discreetly kick around new ideas behind the scenes with some of the real investing running buddies I have made here (Subramania, Alan, Glenn, Larry, for example, and anyone else who wants in), once in a while, we are going to pick a stinker, a bomb, a catastrophe. TIB, TIB, TIB. As those colleagues can tell you, no one here gets tipped off in advance as regards what my final disposition is on a company I write aboutā¦.and for me it is the act of writing about them, picking them apart, being my own rudest critic and throwing every assertion I make against the wall to be sure it sticks, that allows me finally to say to you in a column that a stock is really worth your looking at. I take your goodwill and trust very seriously, I agonize over everything I present to you before I present it. As a rule I do not take on tasks in life unless I can be the best at it, and I will not rest until this is the best biotech investing website anywhere on earth with the best track record, the happiest readers and above all else the canniest, cleverest, most well-informed, most critical-thinking readers. We will never be a tipsheet or trading advisory, but we will be outclassed by no one. None of you are my formal official students, but if you ever talk to those who have been they will all tell you that KSS thrills when he is found wrong, when someone else comes up with something that sharpens his own game. Some months back, I found a company I was hogwild about scientifically and mulling presenting it. I ran it by Glenn Newberry, who is one bloody scary smart chimichanga, and within a couple of days Glenn had unearthed something that killed my idea totally, something that despite all the care in the world, I drove right by and missedā¦which is why I will always revere him as an indispensible part of what we do here. Because of what we have built here, it is no longer just me. I may have a starring role, but I will never ignore the shoulders of those on whom I stand in this interesting perch.
