Can you stand news of yet another breakthrough in battery design?
http://news.mit.edu/2017/air-breathing-battery-making-renewable-power-more-viable-grid-1011?utm_source&utm_medium&utm_campaign
I think the reporter is meaning megawatt hour cost not KW and if so this would make wind and solar much more viable. Nothing is given on recharge time/rate so cannot tell if usable in EVs. As reported likely use would be on power grid. This is extremely early so no competition to Cobalt Nickel Vanadium etc. for years probably. Still present batteries for EVs are likely to be soon [10 to 20 years] obsolete. IMO ThankYOU Arch1 🙂 Bessr2ALL

Receives Approval to Acquire the Slättberg Cobalt-Nickel-Copper Project in Sweden..Cobalt Price at New Nine Year Highs $31.75 Sienna Resources to acquire the Slättberg Cobalt-Nickel-Copper Project in Sweden

Sienna Resources Receives Approval to Acquire the Slättberg Cobalt- Nickel-Copper Project in Sweden
Sienna Resources (SIE—TSX.v) (A1XCQ0 –FSE) (SNNAF—OTCBB) is pleased to announce it received TSX Venture approval to go forward into an exploration and option agreement (the “Agreement”) with EMX Royalty Corporation (EMX–NYSE (American) TSX.v) to acquire the Slättberg Cobalt-Nickel-Copper Project in Sweden (the “Project”). The Project consists of two adjacent exploration permits comprising approximately 9513 contiguous acres.
Jason Gigliotti president of Sienna states, “We are very pleased to receive approval for this exciting cobalt-nickel-copper prospect. Cobalt prices have just crossed fresh nine year highs as of yesterday, and we look forward to advancing this prospect. There are 12 historic mines on this property and with modern mining approaches, we are very optimistic about what this project could contain. We expect to be drilling early 2018 as the project is drill ready now.”
Slättberg is located 25 kilometers northwest of Falun, Sweden. Slättberg is a historic mining camp hosting cobalt-nickel-copper rich massive sulfide mineralization that occurs within a two kilometer belt of historic nickel-copper mines. The Project contains drill defined massive sulfide mineralization that extends to ~100 meters in depth, and remains open for expansion at depth and along strike. The Project is accessible year round, with nearby rail, power and 5 smelters in the Nordic region. At least 12 historic mines are located on the property, with historic operations dating back to the late 1800’s…
Mineralization at Slättberg is hosted by 1.8-1.9 Ga (Svecofennian) supracrustal rocks (metavolcanics and metasediments) located along the southwestern flank of a large gabbroic intrusive complex. The historic mines are positioned along an east-west trend of massive sulfide occurrences developed in and around a similarly oriented body of “leptite”. This is a local term used to describe rhyolitic/felsic tuffaceous rocks commonly associated with sulfide mineralization in Bergslagen. Mafic and ultramafic rocks also occur in and around the mine workings.
weden is at the forefront of an exploration and development boom in the mining industry. The country’s favorable business environment includes a low corporate income tax rate, a proactive geological survey, and broad public support for export-led resource extraction. Sweden has a long history of mining, and is host to some of Europe’s largest active mines.
Northvolt is planning to be the largest battery factory in Europe at roughly the same size as Tesla’s Gigafactory. Jason Gigliotti states “Northvolt wants to locally source as much battery material as possible such as cobalt and nickel. There are now more than 20 mega battery factories currently being planned or constructed globally, creating a massive demand on the battery metals such as lithium, cobalt and nickel. Sienna is focused on exploring and developing projects that will meet this insatiable demand.”

$FCEL – NotEV > Toyota and FuelCell Energy Plan to Build a Giant Renewable Power and Hydrogen Plant https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/toyota-fuelcell-energy-renewable-power-hydrogen-plant#gs.XfR19iE Best2ALL!
Hydrogen is interesting fuel Ben, battery tech has to happen though, the sooner the better IMO. The battery side of tech will spur a ton of activity. I bought Plug a few years ago around $2 just before it jumped to $12 for a minute, sold it just under $10. That was one of my few successes and I clearly remember the rush. I have not looked at Plug since so no clue what is happening today. This is a huge project, too bad it costs so much to operate in CA. The way we are doing business here Toyota probably got the opportunity for a song, CA is pricey for the workers in any event. Progress is progress wherever it happens. Best.

Nice stuff Ben, thank you. I know how important battery tech is to the big picture but have remained on the sidelines researching and learning about recent tech breakthroughs. $XMG in Canada, $MGXMF in the US – This looks very fascinating. I bought shares of MGX Minerals last January when they were 0.75$, they ran up to over 2$ a share and I sold half my position. I am now still holding a small position today.
I find it very interesting whenever a company can turn a bi-product into a profit. Here in Alberta there seems to be word of several companies starting up with the intention to take old produced water used for the oil and gas industry and extract lithium. I find it some what hard to decide on which ones will be profitable. I do like the assets the MGX has. Happy to see someone on SG is also into this company.

I ran across MGX a few months ago when I researched Lithium brine miners. MGX got my attention though I couldn’t put my finger on what their primary goal was, it appears to be reclaiming lithium from waste oil brine and not actually mining lithium from brine. Lithium is still in demand and if there is an out performer in lithium miners it will be one with an alternate process, i.e. not evaporation. Which is why I took a starter postion in Pure Energy $PEMIF. The last newsletter I got from MGX said they now have a portable version of their technology up running and deployed. There does seem to be interest with miners in reclaiming what was once considered waste. MGX, First Cobalt and others I don’t recall are doing it now, something to watch for. I’m still looking to get in MGX when funds are available.
