2017 was a year of tremendous accomplishment for Clean Teq Holdings in every respect.
We saw remarkable achievements in mine construction, in finance, and in market development, with landmark contracts in every business segment;
We saw a complex business appear as if by magic, including business offices on four continents, and the launch of business website in the water division;
We were informed of superb existing and newly-formed strategic partnerships,
with the likes of Airbus, Peng-Xin Mining, Chinese state and power entities, Chinalco, and Multotec;
We were witness to a major off-take agreement with a leading battery manufacture;
We learned of an astute acquisition of a controlling interest in a VRB business by Mr. Friedland;
We learned of deep and valuable research and development support at prestigious universities and manufacturers;
and we became sure of unseen low-cost manufacturing contacts and alliances.
And oh-by-the-way, we got a listing on the TSX.
The company inspires confidence and optimism. Robert Friedland has a deep long-term strategy, and he knows what he is doing.
I am not sure what is more impressive: His strategic vision, or his managerial talent in executing it.
Clean Teq is a company that is worth following. It is by far my largest position.
There are a lot of companies with good concepts. But Clean Teq has a deep and brilliant strategic concept which is at the heart of major world trends; a revolutionary technology; and a management that executes flawlessly.
**
GOING FORWARD: SUITABLE TOPICS FOR THIS THREAD
1. CLEAN TEQ HOLDINGS, CLEAN TEQ WATER, and their interests, or related companies.
2. Miners and producers of COBALT, VANADIUM, SCANDIUM; also nickel, zinc, graphite, lithium, rare earths, silica, and manganese.
3. WATER PURIFICATION, especially when tied into mineral extraction therefrom.
4. “TECHNO MINERS” and other innovators in mining and material extraction
See notes below on thread and topic overlaps, which are unavoidable.
**
One year ago this week, I wrote an article on Clean Teq Holdings. It was a speculative company, but
one with a visionary and proven leader, dramatic potential in specific, attractive commodities,
innovative methods and IP for mineral extraction, and big ambitions in water purification.
Clean Teq Holdings defied easy categorization, and continues to do so.
One year later, Clean Teq has not disappointed. Clean Teq has exceeded all reasonable expectations.
**
If you need background on Clean Teq, I refer you to the predecessor of this thread: “Scandium, Cobalt,
and Water Purification: Clean Teq Holdings”, where you will also find the guidelines and rules for this
thread; and to the Clean Teq and Clean Teq Water websites, which warrant close examination.
OUR BIAS AND BASIC VIEW
This thread is for those who believe in the coming EV wave, light weighting of transport, and most importantly,
in the importance of energy storage and batteries of all scales;
and also, it is for those who believe that the disruptions caused thereby will be rapid.
Because of this opinion, it follows that the existing viable battery technologies and the materials needed
for them are important. We anticipate rapid change; we subscribe to the Tony Seba “Disruption Scenario”,
that suggests disruptiv changes are occuring faster.
If you disagree with the Disruption Scenario, or the eventual proliferation of EVs,
that is fine; but please do not debate it on this thread. The thread is for those who believe in the future of battery power,
and in the immediate opporunities in commodities related to batteries and energy storage.
We will be able to see in shortly whether we are right or wrong in this belief.
If it takes longer than we think, we will complain about ”being early.”
My perspective is for the next five years. That is “long term”. This is not a trading thread.
Occasionally short-term opportunities are appropriate to call out,
but short-term trading is not the emphasis here.
On the other hand should restrain ourselves from too much attention
to developments and materials for technologies that are likely to take longer than five years to have an impact.
We are looking for investable ideas, not 10 year forecasts on the Future of Civilization.
So let’s keep it down on hydrogen fuel cells and molten salt batteries for a couple of months.
**
NOTES ON THREAD AND TOPIC OVERLAPS
Our assumption is that Li-NCM, VRB’s, and zinc batteries are going to be the main battery formats purchased,
installed or contracted for in the near-term, hence the commodities needed for them are of interest.
New battery technologies are better discussed on the #batteries thread ,
unless they involve a vertical commodity/battery producer.
We are interested in what is going to have an impact in five years.
For example, if you are convinced that Google is about to conquer the world with a molten salt battery,
then come on over here and recommend Morton Salt as a buy-out candidate.
But debate whether molten salt batteries have a future, and when, on the #batteries thread.
News that shows increasing penetration on solar are relevant,
as they confirm the importance of large-scale energy storage.
But we would like to know who is getting the contracts and what type of battery they are using.
There is going to be some unavoidable overlap. Nickel and manganese sources are swing metals,
sometimes they may be better discussed on the Hard Asset thread as base metals.
If you make a post on the wrong thread, don’t worry too much, there are
no fines or jail time. I do it myself all the time and I understand it can be confusing.

For some unknown reason my lengthy recent posts have all gone into moderation, despite having nothin in them that is controversial, obscene, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable.
Travis denies knowing the particulars of how his software selects posts to be reviewed. We do not know who does the software or what their parameters and objectives are; Travis may not know himself.
But my conclusion is that internet traffic is being monitored on account of
cobalt, China, or some other related issue particular to these posts.
Re: Moderation.
You’re listed as a guest as you’re writing now. Could that be a contributing factor?
So who does the moderating? I always thought that SGumshoe’s chosen software monitored “questionable” content in Gummyland only. Does software everywhere act the same way and hold the same criteria?
edski, from my experiences commenting on different sites, the moderator software can vary from site to site. Sometimes a single word added/removed can make the difference whether a post goes in moderation of not. I have found this out by taking a post flagged for moderation, copied and deleted a word at a time until I found the offending word. When that word was removed, my comment would be posted without moderation. I first thought it would be a phrase that would trigger the moderation; but I never found that to be true. However, it just may be I did not run across ‘the phrase’ that triggered moderation. …Just my 2 cents worth of experience!
Thanks deanbob. I don’t know anything about that business, and even if it’s a business by itself or part of a package deal.
Four major posts with analysis on the cobalt market have gone into moderation.
My last two posts were similarly moderated HN; I though it might have been because I was a bit rude about FGR and its CEO.
No matter. Here’s a good article about cobalt from Seeking Alpha, which mentions Australian cobalt in a favourable light. Let’s see if they moderate this one.

Are we implying this is trigger word computer editing from outside?
When I asked Travis he indicated that he did not know the details of the programming. So even a purchaser of software for a website cannot know all the ramifications of the software being purchased.
Are they computer programmers ? Are they experts in chip design ?
There a few levels of possible outside involvement.
First there is the software itself. Then there are the
electronics in all the devices we use. Then there are the Big Brother surveillance capabilities on the internet and all other electronic communication.
**
Look, Big Brother was involved with the creation of these technologies.
Recently I saw that smart TVs can show pictures BOTH WAYS. In other words, they have technology to surveil TV viewers.
Your smart phone may be off. But that doesn’t necessarily mean someone cannot be listening.
Now my broker is asking for voice recognition “for my protection”.
Walmart is installing facial recognition software at store entries.
I cannot verify it, but I have seen people claim that every phone call, every financial transaction everything ever done on the internet is stored somewhere.
Now they want Alexa to be in your living room.
No, thanks.
Happy thoughts !
What ever happened to our right to privacy ?
Big Brother is watching and listening to you.
All this is very true, but I don’t worry about what I can’t change. Yes, theoretically ‘they’ may be able to watch you watching TV, or listen to you chatting to your girlfriend, but they would need at least three people devoted to doing this in 3 shifts per every day. That means 75% of people on the planet would need to be employed in surveying the 25%. And who is gonna survey the 75%? It ain’t gonna happen. What potentially could happen is that the info is recorded and stored so that if you were suspected of say terrorism, they could look back to review what you said to whom.
A BIG part of this surveillance is designed to wipe out the black cash economy. People often ask me ‘How much for cash guv’ . I say. I dont want cash thanks. I cant bank the cash without creating a record. I cant pay a utility bill, or credit card online, or buy a car thats registered to me or family member etc etc. Un-banked cash also skews your credit ratings…..you look too poor to be credit worthy. About all you can do is use it for disposable items like beer and cigarettes. Tax law is different (in UK) to all other laws. It presumes you are guilty until proven innocent. By this means if the taxman suspects you’ve been chiselling him, he can simply estimate your taxable income….then its for you to prove him wrong. So if I used cash to routinely buy your food say, he could tot up how much you’d legitimately spent on food this year….compare it to the national average and ask ‘If you eat so little, how come you’re 280lbs? If he has a reasonable doubt, he throws an inflated estimate at you and leaves you to accept it or go to court to disprove it.
Yes, Big Brother is recording you….get used to it coz its such a powerful tool that it aint going away
Well “they” just put my last post into moderation.

I do not recall this ever being mentioned, but….I don’t really want to bring it up with all of our current speculation consuming so much time….I will anyway, just for yucks.
Spin-off’s! There are so many possible individual businesses coming out of the CLQ Empire. While I am not investing in CLQ with that in mind, every week I feel as though I am checking into a different company / division. I can see this happening in the future, with no timeline suggested at all.
Part of this comes from the fact that CLQ’s massive involvement in so many areas cannot be fully absorbed by Mr. Market. It does seem to be a wild dream to go after all of these different minerals and inventions at once, and I THINK I know what’s going on.
Maybe the company as a whole can make it as one conglomerate. But maybe, I don’t know, a little separation and breathing room between a couple of endeavor’s might help share price.
Thoughts?
edski, you are onto it, and most investors will not see it until it is in a news release.
The possibilities are really mind-blowing but when you start to talk about them, people think you are really off the deep end. Maybe we are.
But so far nothing major is dropping out. All the possibilities are still alive.
No failures, no scratches, no abandonment of major initiatives.
There may be some along the way, but none so far.

**
It just takes time. I am going to accumulate and be patient.
I have always thought that CLQ is too multi faceted……it deflects their managements and Mr Markets focus. I believe they will hive off water, battery recycling and everything else that presently adds no value to its SP, , and focus on the pure mine operation. I think their institutional investors will demand this. But RF will defo keep a financial interest in the overall pie rather than sell them lock stock and barrel…..maybe through Ivanhoe Capital.
My worry is that RF may effect this ‘transfer’ at a nominal price arguing that their present contribution to CLQ’s sp is nominal.
As has been said, RF is a major personal shareholder in CLQ so he wont want to see any form of CLQ share dilution. By simply transferring the assets across from CLQ to Ivanhoe Capital, in effect, he would just be transferring the value from one of his pockets to the other. But it would sure dilute the rest of us in the longer term.
Sarah…my thoughts on RF, Ivanhoe Capital, and spin-offs.
Most of RF’s enterprises are private. The really high-tech ones are kept that way. Clean Teq is an exception, because the amounts of capital needed are too big risky for RF to take on with private money. Same with Ivanhoe Mines.
If it is really going to be profitable and he doesn’t need outside capital or partners, he keeps it private. Very logical.
But with CLQ, long-term he needs other capital and a lot of partners to maximize it. He needs full support of the Chinese. He needs a billion dollars to build Sunrise. He needs research and off-take and co-operation. So, we get a chance to invest in the public markets.
As far as spin-offs. I think CLQ is too difficult to split up, not because of the end applications and entities, which appear
easy to divvy up; but because of the root technology and the necessity for cross-germination of applications and ideas.
How do you separate the graphene technology from the
uranium or nickel operations ? Or the mine wastewater projects, which will have both organic and metal extraction and water purification aspects ? Or the vanadium extraction from the VRB operation ?
In my opinion it is not as practical to spin-off the different parts. It looks good from our point of view, but in practice I think it would create a lot of problems that are not productive to solve. In my opinion it is better to keep it all
and not have the administrative issues and conflicts of interest.
However, we will likely see JVs or possibly geographic divisions. We can see evidence of this in the Multotec deal;
the Hubei JV. Maybe the Chinese water will be a JV. Who knows.. But I would prefer to see one controlling entity at the top of it all: : CLQ, Robert Friedland, and the Board of Clean Teq.
For once Ill have to disagree with you incertain respects.
” Or the mine wastewater projects, which will have both organic and metal extraction and water purification aspects” Simple…you contract them to do the job and pay them a fee.
”But I would prefer to see one controlling entity at the top of it all: : CLQ, Robert Friedland, and the Board of Clean Teq.” Well in part, RF will grant your wish. He will be at the head of each segment.
I would LOVE to see CLQ Headquarters Office!
Unless they have a few for different operations, then that would show that despite working together, seperation is needed to make sure all the facts and figures to their own area of operation remain constant and exact.
Another thing about spinn off’s, Negotiations between different partners, legal matters,(lawsuits), individual pricing, would not be aimed at just one massive conglomerate. They would be “protected” from each other. Then again, some government could then call into play collusion and price fixing.
Never an easy option these days. As if RF doesn’t have enough on his plate! How? How can he do it?
Edski, RF raises money along the way with strategic partners. Some of the really far-out stuff we cannot get into, the companies are private.
But because there are so many possibilities, I think capital will be raised primarily from parties who can contribute in a meaningful way to advancement of the specific project or enterprise.
Take a look at the companies in Ivanhoe Capital. The key thrust is technology applied to mineral detection and extraction, plus energy.
Apologies if posted but we’ll worth reading, in fact ESSENTIAL

Squirrel…love Strafor though I do not subscribe any more.
I agree with this particular analyisis. China’s actions are consistent in all battery materials…they have to have them to implement their electrification strategy.
As a consequence it is not necessary to “demonize” them, it is clear self-interest and intelligent strategy; though I do wish our side would wake up. They have a billion and a half people. Industrialization is poisoning the people and they are pissed off about it. And they don’t want to subsidize foreign oil with US dollars, or import uranium from Russia, or burn coal.
It is all very logical.
Both sides of the (US) aisle are too busy enriching themselves to give a rat’s okole about their constituents! But that doesn’t stop me from hoping they’ll wake up.

I was nervous when taken down to the basement boiler room. At the end of the corridor there was a back door…..it had a chair placed against it. I asked ‘Whats that?’ Oh the locks broken so we jammed it under the handle to stop it blowing open. !!!

A counter point to cobalt pricing:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-07-08/battery-skeptic-funds-wait-out-cobalt-rally-seen-as-fleeting
Good that Clean Teq has nickel, scandium, and water.
Love those multi-metallic deposits.
Always hard to know as I’m far from any expert but I see this as little more than trying to supress the demand price. All indicators are is that cobalt is essential to battery stability. We know all why, reducing boom disasters.
Thus the reason I’m heavily invested in nickel,
Question more importantly is nickel replaceable? (note see my previous post!)
Next is, is vanadium on its way out….
SS: Things are moving at such a rate. Who can predict what new innovations will come to pass in 2years? The only solution is to invest in miners that are producing current technology metals today, and jump ship when the wind changes.
Sarah, I agree but there are a few things that give us advance notice.
I think on the existing battery formulations, we are in the clear for 3-5 years, regardless of new tech developments.
And we have scandium in our hip pocket…which will launch like a rocket one of these days, and last for years.
HN: Going back to the reassurance of China’s 5 year plan, I agree we are safe for 3+ years. But Ive got my parachute ready. Its a bit like bio….a cure for cancer may be being developed today, but it’ll take 5 years of proving before chemo drugs are taken off the market.
I think there is a two-continent misdirection on cobalt. The DRC sources are being shunned but I saw that KAT actually upped production last quarter. So more cobalt is getting to market from DRC than last year.
Plus the cobalt developers in OZ and Canada are depressed.
I think people are accumulating both.
I’m not that worried about the future of cobalt, in an electrified world, cobalt will have its place, there will be all kinds of alternatives, but that will be more because cobalt supply and price could be a problem, not because cobalt will be rendered obsolete. The ethical cobalt that is produced should get sucked up, and at a good price. How good, who knows. I am also bullish on premium class nickel, perhaps even more so. And 5 years out, scandium, though it would surprise me to see any kind of scandium off take for at least 3 years, maybe 5, though it wouldn’t shock me.
I have a problem understanding the concept that when institutions are accumulating a stock, the stock price goes down. That seems ridiculous to me. Sure, I’ve been educated on manipulation, bots, especially on the australian exchange, which seems really loose on what they are allowing. I think those kinds of programs are designed to give day traders and shorters an advantage at any given moment, not for long term accumulation. Any kind of high volume buying should result in the stock price going up. If someone thinks I’m wrong on this, I’d love to see some evidence or link to an article that explains how large volume accumulating buyers are able to sink the stock price in order to get cheaper shares. If the demand to buy is high, the price goes up, thats economics 101. If the stock price goes down, some retail owners will get scared and sell, others will see the opportunity to buy shares on sale, I find it incredule that driving the price down creates significant selling pressure for high volume buyers to take advantage of. Logic dictates If they want retail stockholders to sell in volume, they have to offer them a compelling price, not a lowball offer.
Renby: I have the greatest respect for your thinking, and ‘obvious’ logic says you are right. My theory is that Oz is a relatively small market and as we know, brokers only make money by trading stock. Add to this (as you say) the OZ market is skewed toward day traders (Ozzys loooove a gamble)….perhaps this combination is why its so volotle. So if the brokers know there’s volume (commission) to be had from trading even at lowball prices, they may spread the word to the gamblers that ‘this ones headed south….get out now at 60 and get back in at 47’. Thats my 2 cents.
I agree big time with SS nickel battery grade will be a killer. That is why RF is looking into Sama. And also agree big time with nuzzles about sc and CLQ. CLQ will be the one to bring sc to market on a large market. CLQ will have the lowest price offering for sc in the world as I see it. 4 years from now I think I will be very happy with my CLQ and SME holdings.

CLQ scandium….Good news from old news
I saw some of the old CLQ announcements about scandium. One was December 2016; so maybe my antennae were not up at the time.
Anyway a big shot from Airbus said they “were delighted to be working with CLQ to “develop a supply chain” in scandium. Another line in the 2016 announcment stated that CLQ was going to ship one tonne of material to Airbus for testing and development.
Elsewhere I noted that Airbus was already producing and selling their proprietary formulation of scan-alu alloy, “Scalmalloy.” The inference is that CLQ production is already being used in the products sold by Airbus subsidiary APWorks.
I was looking for confirmation that CLQ material was in Airbus Scalmalloy; confirmation was there all along in the old announcements.
This adds to my conviction that CLQ will land big take-off from Airbus, and it adds to the probability IMO that Airbus will be involved in a JV equity project for the scandium circuit at Sunrise.
PS. Airbus is also EU military aerospace.
For what it is worth, they talk about recycling Scalmalloy; and one of the metals in it is magnesium. So chalk another metal up to the Clean iX process, and the recycling of scan-alu materials to Clean Teq’s potential future revenue streams, which seem to be multiplying.

Interesting video. The guy (with the worst wig in the world) talks about the battery being used to compliment existing batteries (not to replace them) to achieve acceleration. Sounds a bit like the role existing Hybrid batteries play with petrol for cruising once youve got up to speed.
Yes, I agree it wouldn’t be to replace anything, but in grid situations, instantaneous power is needed for un- interrupted supply.

These laterite projects are no easy deal. And anyone into cleanteq or the cobalt space has taken a licking this year, ouch. But that is the nature of the beast, in the commodity space. My own hypothesis is the price of nickel and cobalt have to go significantly up from here, over the next 2-5 years, and I’ve said it before, up way higher than anyone is thinking right now. But then low and behold, someone did come out with an article that nickel will double in the next two years. I’m pretty sure the world is going to need all the nickel and cobalt sulphate it can find, and what you have seen this year is even the very best deposits in the world are sketchy economical. And that means the price is going to go way higher, so even some pathetic deposits become economical, the ones that will be making the big money are the ones that look a bit sketchy now, but at $20 nickel, will look like money presses. Of all the companies I follow, Ardea seems like the opportunity of a lifetime right now, as the present price is just the kind of dream I look for. That deposit is crazy, look at the numbers, it is already super conservative 100 billion IGV, if you want to project scandium you could see 200B. Its MC is US$60M. Compare that to lets say Seabridge Gold. What is their IGV and what is their MC and cost of mine etc.? Ardea has quite a few economic advantages, consider themselves “technically low risk” since they are using proven 5th generation techniques, they actually have an easy ore to mine, as well as neutralizer which is a big money saver. they also have a mess of other deposits, and I expect a spin off at some point, based on their own guidance, they’ve got gold and other stuff. I think the price, at a 52 week low, is an amazing opportunity in this space, if the nickel and cobalt prices do what many believe in the next 2-5 years, the timing may be unbelievable for a 5 bagger potential or who knows? They have at least an equal deposit to CLQ, actually its way bigger if you count the whole thing, and 1/7 the MC. At the present price, I switched over a huge glob of CTEQF money to ARFFF, I love both companies, but my thought is ARFFF could move super fast, while CTEQF is priced high for a company that may not make a profit for 5 years or longer, I think they’ll be entries in the future, right now I’d buy back the shares I sold between 68-70 cents for 45 cents if it falls that low. I prefer it goes up for the shares I presently hold.
Renby: What/when is the next ardea catalyst?
Renby,
I completely agree with everything you say about Ardea’s rich resource, multiple assets, and low market cap. I would also add that it has about $20 million AUD in cash. It has hired KPMG to manage negotiations with interested parties, and its flagship Goongarrie Nickel-Cobalt Project is located in Western Australia in “the tier-one mining jurisdiction of Kalgoorlie, which offers world-class infrastructure in an established mining hub” as they say on their website. Their Goongarrie resource is close to major smelting and refining facilities, some of which are owned by a potentially interested party, BHP. I hold both CleanTeq and Ardea but the latter is now my biggest holding. IMO it is a screaming buy at these prices.
