2017 was a year of tremendous accomplishment for Clean Teq Holdings in every respect.
We saw remarkable achievements in mine construction, in finance, and in market development, with landmark contracts in every business segment;
We saw a complex business appear as if by magic, including business offices on four continents, and the launch of business website in the water division;
We were informed of superb existing and newly-formed strategic partnerships,
with the likes of Airbus, Peng-Xin Mining, Chinese state and power entities, Chinalco, and Multotec;
We were witness to a major off-take agreement with a leading battery manufacture;
We learned of an astute acquisition of a controlling interest in a VRB business by Mr. Friedland;
We learned of deep and valuable research and development support at prestigious universities and manufacturers;
and we became sure of unseen low-cost manufacturing contacts and alliances.
And oh-by-the-way, we got a listing on the TSX.
The company inspires confidence and optimism. Robert Friedland has a deep long-term strategy, and he knows what he is doing.
I am not sure what is more impressive: His strategic vision, or his managerial talent in executing it.
Clean Teq is a company that is worth following. It is by far my largest position.
There are a lot of companies with good concepts. But Clean Teq has a deep and brilliant strategic concept which is at the heart of major world trends; a revolutionary technology; and a management that executes flawlessly.
**
GOING FORWARD: SUITABLE TOPICS FOR THIS THREAD
1. CLEAN TEQ HOLDINGS, CLEAN TEQ WATER, and their interests, or related companies.
2. Miners and producers of COBALT, VANADIUM, SCANDIUM; also nickel, zinc, graphite, lithium, rare earths, silica, and manganese.
3. WATER PURIFICATION, especially when tied into mineral extraction therefrom.
4. “TECHNO MINERS” and other innovators in mining and material extraction
See notes below on thread and topic overlaps, which are unavoidable.
**
One year ago this week, I wrote an article on Clean Teq Holdings. It was a speculative company, but
one with a visionary and proven leader, dramatic potential in specific, attractive commodities,
innovative methods and IP for mineral extraction, and big ambitions in water purification.
Clean Teq Holdings defied easy categorization, and continues to do so.
One year later, Clean Teq has not disappointed. Clean Teq has exceeded all reasonable expectations.
**
If you need background on Clean Teq, I refer you to the predecessor of this thread: “Scandium, Cobalt,
and Water Purification: Clean Teq Holdings”, where you will also find the guidelines and rules for this
thread; and to the Clean Teq and Clean Teq Water websites, which warrant close examination.
OUR BIAS AND BASIC VIEW
This thread is for those who believe in the coming EV wave, light weighting of transport, and most importantly,
in the importance of energy storage and batteries of all scales;
and also, it is for those who believe that the disruptions caused thereby will be rapid.
Because of this opinion, it follows that the existing viable battery technologies and the materials needed
for them are important. We anticipate rapid change; we subscribe to the Tony Seba “Disruption Scenario”,
that suggests disruptiv changes are occuring faster.
If you disagree with the Disruption Scenario, or the eventual proliferation of EVs,
that is fine; but please do not debate it on this thread. The thread is for those who believe in the future of battery power,
and in the immediate opporunities in commodities related to batteries and energy storage.
We will be able to see in shortly whether we are right or wrong in this belief.
If it takes longer than we think, we will complain about ”being early.”
My perspective is for the next five years. That is “long term”. This is not a trading thread.
Occasionally short-term opportunities are appropriate to call out,
but short-term trading is not the emphasis here.
On the other hand should restrain ourselves from too much attention
to developments and materials for technologies that are likely to take longer than five years to have an impact.
We are looking for investable ideas, not 10 year forecasts on the Future of Civilization.
So let’s keep it down on hydrogen fuel cells and molten salt batteries for a couple of months.
**
NOTES ON THREAD AND TOPIC OVERLAPS
Our assumption is that Li-NCM, VRB’s, and zinc batteries are going to be the main battery formats purchased,
installed or contracted for in the near-term, hence the commodities needed for them are of interest.
New battery technologies are better discussed on the #batteries thread ,
unless they involve a vertical commodity/battery producer.
We are interested in what is going to have an impact in five years.
For example, if you are convinced that Google is about to conquer the world with a molten salt battery,
then come on over here and recommend Morton Salt as a buy-out candidate.
But debate whether molten salt batteries have a future, and when, on the #batteries thread.
News that shows increasing penetration on solar are relevant,
as they confirm the importance of large-scale energy storage.
But we would like to know who is getting the contracts and what type of battery they are using.
There is going to be some unavoidable overlap. Nickel and manganese sources are swing metals,
sometimes they may be better discussed on the Hard Asset thread as base metals.
If you make a post on the wrong thread, don’t worry too much, there are
no fines or jail time. I do it myself all the time and I understand it can be confusing.
You can also use Travis’ new cross-reference gizmo.

Well I’m down to my last 2 weeks in Southern California where I’ve spent the last 40 years, and now going to base down in Costa Rica. After “The Purging”, which ended last night, pretty much everything I own is in my 2 cars, and soon both those cars will be sold.
I hope to be traveling a lot, for both work and pleasure, so being light of possessions is the way to go. When I’m living in Costa Rica, my expenses are not that much more than the cost of food. I’m set up on the beach in an ex pat boom town. This is all the stuff I’m bringing:
1. Clothes. 2. A box of herbs, medicinal foods, and remedies. 3. A box of personal use products, you know, hair, skin, and general hygiene type stuff, I like quality stuff so I have to bring it. 4. Two high tech insect traps and some natural topical repellents. 5. A non-lethal defense weapon that will paralyze [for about a minute] any human or animal that messes with me or my loved ones. 6. The materials necessary for my creative mission. 7. My electric guitar which runs on a rechargeable lithium ion battery, with everything built in, it docks with my iPhone. 8.. Computer and phone
9. My discs, and two professional disc baskets. Here’s me throwing my discs in my Costa Rica front yard, can’t wait to set up my baskets.

Do your disks come back to you or land in the ocean, if they land in the ocean, is your next trick, retrieval? Icelandic
I try and avoid throwing them in the ocean. Disc throwers tend to be obsessive about retrieving them, which can involve tree climbing, ocean or lake diving, and long searches in thick foliage. But Costa Rica is not like a California park, you better be careful stomping around high grass, looking for a buried disc you might disturb the wrong snake or dart throwing frog,
Just got back from a week in Manuel Antonia. Wonderful place!

I suck at music but learn my favorite guitar solos note for note, and its a blast. I have a legacy in the field of holistic health where I have innovated as a practitioner, teacher, and business owner. The cranial techniques I developed have helped me cure or significantly improve people who have suffered from headache syndromes, facial nerve problems, jaw problems and things like that. Now I have the cred to have small groups of students pay me large sums of money to teach them in week long intensive formats. The rest of the time, I’m a free boy, and just pursue my interests, such as figuring out the next super trend for fun and profit, and travel around trying to enjoy the best this world has to offer.

Hi renby; I think I have Cuboid Syndrome; have you ever done a Cuboid Whip?
Did anybody get the language on your video? I would guess Gaelic; it sounds like the singer Enya. Long on $ARRRF at .63 on 7/23/2018

And yes, I know the “cuboid whip”, but have a better move where I evert the calcaneus and drive the cuboid home between the heel and the metatarsals. When it works, its a beautiful thing.
What a year for our favorite stocks, I’ve got a lot of ARRRF, my basis is .70, someday, somehow, we’re going to get paid on the value of that deposit. Takes ballz of steel to stomach this volatility.
The year is not over yet.
The key for me is to not have a position size that distresses.
We get too emotional if it is money we are counting on.
HN: I took you at your word and spread out a heap of $100 bills on the table…..damned if I can spot the one I dont care about 🙂
Care about and distress are different.
If one is a long term inestor, the money is not lost or made until the position is closed out.
I care also, physical cash is sometimes better to have because your emotions about money are clearer.
People spend (lose) money all the time for all kinds of reasons. A lot of people are in the market for short-term gain or entertainment….not that I recommend this.

Chris Gilbey OAM to Join Ionic Board
We farewell Merlin Allan as he returns to the UK and welcome the appointment of Chris Gilbey to the Ionic Team.
Dear Ionic shareholders and friends,
It is with regret that we announce the departure of Merlin Allan from the Board of Ionic Industries. Merlin has played an invaluable role in the development of our company over the past two years however, for personal reasons, is heading back to the United Kingdom. We would like to thank him for his service to the company and look forward to his ongoing involvement as a shareholder and ambassador for the company.
As Alexander Graham Bell said, “when one door closes another opens” and we are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Gilbey OAM to the Ionic board. Chris has a long history in entrepreneurial pursuits founding and building IP-based businesses.
He was CEO of digital signal processing company, Lake Technology (ASX) before selling Lake to Dolby Labs (NYSE). He then consulted to Dolby, helping build their consumer electronics licensing business activities in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China. After Dolby he became Entrepreneur in Residence at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Electromaterials Science where he was responsible for spinning out a hydrogen technology venture that has recently re-located to the US. Most recently, Chris co-founded the Australian Graphene Industry Association, to help promote and facilitate the development of graphene technologies developed by Australian companies.
Chris currently serves (and will continue to serve) as the CEO and Executive Chairman of Imagine Intelligent Materials Limited. Imagine built the first commercial graphene manufacturing plant in Australia and has pioneered the development of conductive coatings using graphene. They were the first to develop leak detection solutions in geotextiles using graphene. Imagine’s approach is to develop solutions and materials that can be deployed into existing manufacturing processes and supply chains with a certification process that ensures replicability and consistency, ensuring users will trust the product. Chris has built valuable relationships with research groups at universities in Australia and beyond, including Swinburne University, Deakin, RMIT, CSIRO, the University of Wollongong and the University of Oklahoma, and with ARENA2036 at the University of Stuttgart. Imagine’s graphene plant was the recipient of the Innovation, Research and Development Award from Engineers Australia for 2016.
Chris’s past experience at Imagine very closely resembles the journey Ionic is now working through and we look forward to drawing on his expertise in the graphene industry to drive progress on the commercialisation of our own graphene technologies. Chris brings with him a wealth of sales and marketing nous, strategic vision in the start-up space and unique experience in building businesses based on collaboration and innovation. These are all attributes that will greatly benefit Ionic as we move into the next phase of our evolution looking to near-term commercial outcomes from some of our technologies.
All the best, The #Ionic Team

EUC ASX, Co if anyone is invested or thinking about investing in EUC, presently there is a number of excellent posts on Hot Copper ( HC ) Australia, by ‘ alpaka ‘.
Although the sp has been battered over the last few months, due to various reasons, the project in Dobsina is very promising.
Worthwhile having a look at, as they’re about to start a concentrated UG drilling program.
The quarterly report should be released either today – Friday Aussie time, or Monday.
As always do your own research – reading alpaka’s posts will prove to be beneficial.

Gr8teful…re Industrial water use at big mines
Absolutely a major issue, in China and around the world. Interesting that Ivanhoe announced water purification deal at Platreefs four years before the earliest mine operations.
Way early but the thing screams Clean Teq to me.
Why does a mining company make an announcement about water supplies and contract for a project to recycle water four years in advance ?
$IVPAF #H20 is required to subject to purification, is my point, in this case.
$ARRRF – An Update On Ardea Resources
by Matt Bohlsen @sa
Summary
Ardea Resources has had a rocky ride from when I first wrote on them in August 2017 at AUD 0.91.
Ardea Resources is well positioned with 5.46 million tonnes of contained nickel and 405,000 tonnes of contained cobalt.
Ardea Resources shares have been sold off recently as the PFS was perhaps below expectation and sentiment is poor. This gives investors an excellent chance to buy in.
https://seekingalpha.com/article/4191550-update-ardea-resources?isDirectRoadblock=true
ARL np yet
ARRRF You have to love Bohlsen’s stock price projections, he’s calling a 10 bagger in 5 years, and that is at slightly lower than present nickel and cobalt prices. I have already moved a lot of my CLQ money into Ardea, the relative value is ridiculously compelling. All the reasons I was overweighted in CLQ have not really panned out. There is no buzz on their technology or water, and looking at the feasibility studies, don’t see the supposed great savings or better recoveries from the supposed technology advantage. Looks to me like 90% risk from unproven tech, relative to MAYBE some cost advantage at the end of the day, but I don’t see much evidence that these savings will be significant even if the tech works as hoped. I’m also soured on the “Friedland effect”, most of the public companies he’s affiliated with have been crashing across the board. I made 50+% on Ivanhoe because I sold the whole thing at about $3.40 the moment I heard “windfall tax”, but lost on a speculation with Cordoba, fortunately bailed on that with a 30% loss, today it would be more like a 70% loss. I now like Ardea’s other properties as having perhaps as much upside as Cleanteq’s other potentials from water, sure the water could be huge, or nothing, who knows? Both have scandium as upside. So to be able to buy Ardea at 1/6 or 1/7 the cost of CLQ, its a relative no brainer. I could buy back the CLQ shares I sold at a 25% discount, but not really feeling it. I am still holding 20% of my original purchase, and just slightly in the red on those, if it does a little rally, I could sell them as well, we’ll see how things go. Before I get too confident in Ardea being a ten bagger, I need to see the financing, cause the threat of dilution is heavy for a laterite mine with a 60M market cap, but I have put a large bet that in the end of the day, this one should pay off nicely. And if N and C prices do what I think they will do in the next 2-5 years, this could be a fortune maker. My present basis on ARRRF is 72 cents.
Another full and frank report from Renby with which I agree. And another well-researched report from Matt Bolhsen where he states that Ardea ( ARRRF ) is “way oversold”, “deeply undervalued”, and rates it a “strong buy for long-term investors”. I first heard about Ardea from Bohlsen and it was subsequently also recommended by Casey Research.
Bohlsen states that Ardea has “by far Australia’s largest cobalt resource (now 405,000tonnes contained cobalt).” The company has six project locations with 3 in Western Australia and 3 in New South Wales, but Bohlsen’s future stock price valuation is just based on the Kalgoorlie Nickel ( and Cobalt ) Project in WA. He assigned a zero valuation to the other projects! In addition to rich cobalt and nickel resources, we are awaiting further information on aluminum, manganese and scandium in WA, and then there are the precious metals and copper and zinc in NSW.
Ardea took a hit with its conservative PFS and then another hit following a recent report where it led off with very negative disclaimers for some reason. It looks like it is now in the process of shrugging these effects off.
My largest position is in Ardea although I still hold a good stake in CleanTeQ, with a desire to see serious catalysts for both stocks soon. RF has certainly been having a rough time of things recently, not only with CleanTeQ’s stock price falling, but also with Ivanhoe which has been battered by political instability and higher taxes in the DRC and now there is serious civil unrest in South Africa. It looks like we are heading into maximum pessimism with Ivanhoe, which could ultimately present a buying opportunity.
Long $ARRRF, $CTEQF
ARL’s opex costs are rubbish when matched with CLQ on an apples v apples valuation hence the low market cap.
Surely the key to this is funding the cost of building the mine. I can see CLQ being funded by China, but where will ARL get the money and on what terms…..I think that’s what is holding the price down. $65mil wont dig a very big hole in the ground…they’ll need more like a billion. Getting that sort of funding while tech is racing to find an alternative to cobalt/nickel batteries, will take a very brave bank and/or a huge front loading (see AUZ). Or theres massive dilution. I doubt the existing shareholders will see much by way of a return for many years.
I agree with all of your evaluations except for one missing item.
As quoted by Cleanteq themselves…. paraphrased…We are building a plant, not just a mine.
To me, that makes one heck of a difference. And what is wrong with putting money into both companies? OR three?
I am long $CLQ-MGX-ARL about equal monetary shares.
I also own some small positions in AES, LGORF, and Vale, actual working mines.
Most of these stocks have been taking it on the chin, and I can only guess as to why. But my main guesses are:
1. Too much speculation and options playing at low prices, especially in the Oz market.
2. Fear of ever changing technology and which needed mineral for “the battery”. I think that there will be a few different battery technologies to fight it out and see which one is the best mix, and then it will be challenged by “the newest” one.
3. Fear of a market crash, pick an exchange anywhere in the world. The US is loaded with tech stocks. Mining has hardly anything to do with the general market evaluations, but suffers from fear of the market collapse.
4 It is more than just the mining sector losing ground, we are just focused on it and do not see the others wallowing around.
Eh……just my thoughts, but then again, I’m a HORRIBLE investor. Buy high and sell low has made me the man I am today……edski
While I agree, as already stated, ARL funding is the “elephant in the room”, my feeling is the biggest cobalt deposit outside the Congo will attract what it needs in order to extract that resource. I believe the demand for cobalt and nickel sulphate will cause the price of those products to reach a level where a whole lot of other deposits, which today would be considered uneconomic, to become economic. So the ones which are say borderline economic now, and I’m not sure i would put either CLQ or ARL in that category at todays prices, both have C1 nickel costs at below $1, but whatever, lets call them borderline based on market reaction to their feasibility studies, those will be hugely profitable when the market adapts to what it takes to get supply and demand lined up. CLQ and ARL are different cases, CLQ has two billionaire directors, with literally unlimited connection to capital. ARL is like the beverly hillbillies, a man named Jed barely kept his family fed, then one day while shooting for some food, and up from the ground came a bubbling blue. Well anyway, the way I see this playing out is somebody that needs cobalt, like Apple, and they reach inside their couch cushions for some loose change, and finance a 4.5 mtpa operation. I think ARL will figure out a way to reward present investors, because that seems to be their pattern and intention. Maybe they will do it in modular fashion with a more modest JV. We’ll see, but I like my chances of a really great return on this investment considering the price I paid for it. I think CLQ will eventually be a huge growth company, but at present valuation, could be a rough ride getting there for stockholders, with much more limited upside until either scandium or water kicks in, like 4-5 years from now.
By the way, I’d love CLQ and Apple to JV, that would be my dream team.
Who knows?
Apple funding projects:
/PRNewswire/ — Apple, Akamai ( AKAM ), Etsy and Swiss Re today announced an agreement to develop two new wind and solar energy farms in Illinois and Virginia. Spearheaded by Apple, the new projects will generate 290 megawatts ….

renbycage – I agree on the Friedland affect wanting but because he is no longer ‘hungry’ but rather contact with his large wallet and with setting ‘things’ up for the future of his family; in an Asian sense.
