Very interesting read, Travis. Thanks for all you do...these market movements remind me of a game of chess. I make what I think is a smart move that eventually wins the game but after reflection discover a different move that would have won it much sooner. i.e. going to cash last year, only lost about 8% (to me a win) but failed to see the potential of energy. I guess its a clear demonstration of the difficulties of being a passive investor...and reminds me of my favorite saying, if I was really as smart as I think I am I'd be smart enough to see that I'm not nearly as smart as I think I am.

This Texas household has three dogs, each with four legs. By coincidence, last year's bear market had four doglegs down. A fifth dogleg appears to be up, given that it has a higher low than the previous one. If the current upswing continues for another week or two, we will have a higher high as well. If so, this suggests we may be out of the woods, according to some pundits who peddle predictions. Maybe it would help if I hollered "Up, boy, up!"

I've never understood why people invest in stocks followed by millions of investors. All of the info and analysis is out there for everyone to chew on, which IMHO reduces the strategy to a crap shoot. Might as well bet on sports, which is also widely followed but at least has the decency to admit it's gambling. That leaves a large pool of stocks that no one in the investment industry follows, which endows us with the possibility of finding a diamond in the rough.Despite all the chest thumping about being contrarian I see very few who are really contrarian. To them being contrarian is buying AMZN when the price sags. If you're really contrarian why not buy coal or uranium stocks? Europe has shown us how important coal still is. They're re-opening coal fired plants. Everyone has hated nuclear but now that LNG and petroleum are 50% of our electricity supply maybe having a nuclear reactor in your area isn't such a bad idea.Buy a few things that are hated for your portfolio. I've made a considerable amount of money buying oil and gold when they were unloved. Oil was a long term money maker for me. I backed up the truck in the late 90s when it was under $20 and sold after the GFC peak. I resurrected some of those positions last year.Love those oil royalty companies. For almost 2 decades up until the GFC oil price peak they were still paying 7-10% distributions while their stock prices kept rising.I looked at gold royalty companies including SAND but took a pass on all of them. In my strategy physical gold is better suited for the role gold plays in my portfolio.Travis,I am in awe of the depth and breadth of your knowledge.

Hey TravisYou unteased Alex Greens favorite micro cap a month ago(ASPI) and I liked the story so I opened a small speculative position. The stock has since jumped from $2.00 to over$3.30. The driver appears to be a breakthrough in digital AI antibodies. I would be interested in hearing from dr gumshoe if this is a real advancement or just marketing. Thanks for the great work.

What seems to be the better mid to long term play on AI - GOOGL? AMZN? MSFT? NVDA? INTC? NOK?

I would guess that Google will make the most money from AI over time, they've probably spent more on the R&D than anyone, but it won't be direct or dramatic. NVIDIA has the leading tools, but is too expensive. Those are both pretty straightforward, though, perhaps there's some future dominant giant hiding elsewhere.
