I wonder how many people don’t read the fine print on all the recommendations that are promulgated on these emails or papers?
At least these people are upfront about the $15K they received.

Reading the disclaimer is a good habit to get into, for sure — it’s pretty amazing the lousy stuff you can get away with as long as you tell people you’re doing it.

Some folks even try to have it both ways, selling their own newsletter but also taking money to promote outside stocks or run “sponsored research” — I always find that particularly egregious, if someone’s paying you money for your opinion they least they should be able to count on is your honest opinion, not an opinion that someone else paid you to have.

A good rule of thumb is that if they feature the name and ticker of the company prominently in the ad (which might not look like an ad)… they’re trying to get you to buy it and help boost the share price. If they don’t mention the company’s name, they’re probably trying to get you to subscribe to their newsletter.
